CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre Set For WWE SummerSlam, Seth Rollins To Be Special Referee

CM Punk will return to the ring at WWE SummerSlam, as he has been cleared to compete.

CM Punk has been out of action with a torn triceps since WWE Royal Rumble in January. He has continued to make occasional appearances on WWE television, especially in recent months as his feud with Drew McIntyre has continued to heat up. Punk cost McIntyre his world title match at WWE Clash at the Castle and his Money in the Bank cash-in at WWE Money in the Bank. McIntyre was then suspended for attacking officials at WWE Money in the Bank.

On the July 22nd episode of WWE RAW, CM Punk came to the ring and announced that he was cleared to compete. He called out McIntyre and said that he wanted to fight.

McIntyre responded and said that he had been waiting for this, but he didn’t want to fight then and there. He said that it was a big money match, and he taunted Punk. RAW General Manager Adam Pearce came out and announced that Punk would face Drew McIntyre at WWE SummerSlam.

Pearce said that if either man laid a finger on each other, the match would be off, and whoever threw the first punch would be suspended. He then introduced Seth Rollins, who confirmed that he would be the special guest referee for the match.

Rollins said that he thrived on chaos, and he would love to put McIntyre and Punk in their place.
