Britt Baker Confirms Her AEW Return Came Together Last Minute

Britt Baker is happy to be back with her AEW family.

After nine months away, Britt Baker made her grand return to television following an intense battle between Mercedes Mone and Stephane Vaquer at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. While Vaquer has since signed with WWE, Mone now founds herself in the direct sights of Baker, with a potential AEW All In match in sight as well.

During the latest episode of Close Up With Renee Paquette, Baker looked back on her triumphant return, revealing that it came together rather last minute.

“It was cemented the night before, so I didn’t have time to prepare anything,” Baker said. “It was very like off to the races and I wouldn’t change that because nobody knew. It’s like I was at home, I was with my family.”

“It was very scattered, but I wouldn’t change anything about it because you don’t have time to overthink it. It didn’t get leaked, which is so hard in wrestling. It’s so frustrating that everything gets spoiled, but I didn’t tell anybody, none of my best friends.”

Mental Preparations

As she mentally prepared for her comeback, Baker was worried about the fan’s reactions, or potentially lack thereof, to it. “I was like they’re not going to care, no one’s going to even give a s*** that I’m here because AEW has surpassed me. That’s such a horrible feeling,” Baker said.

Luckily, those worries were soon suppressed, as the Long Island crowd delivered a thunderous round of cheers to Baker as she stared down the TBS and NPW STRONG Women’s Champion, Mercedes Mone.

“I had goosebumps,” Baker recalled. “It’s kind of like a thing where, it’s again cliche, but it’s like you black out for a second because you lose all sensations. Your mind doesn’t work. I was afraid my legs weren’t going to work that I wasn’t going to be able to walk through the tunnel because I was so nervous but it’s that instinct. It’s that killer Instinct where as soon as your music hits, soon as you hear the crowd, whether they boo or cheer or scream, as soon as you hear that, it’s all the fuel you need.”
