Cody Rhodes Compares Not Being Able To Please All Fans To ‘Parks & Recreation’ Story

Cody Rhodes is not trying to get all the fans to love his current wrestling character.

The WWE Champion is the top babyface in the WWE, and one of the most popular wrestlers in the world. Since re-debuting in the company in 2022, he has constantly been in main event angles, and is among the top merchandise sellers in the company.

However, not everyone loves the American Nightmare character. Luckily, that is something Cody Rhodes has come to terms with.

Cody Rhodes spoke to Chris Van Vliet, and was asked about how he deals with fans disliking his current character.

The WWE Champion compared it to an episode of Parks and Rec. Leslie Knope struggles with one voter hating her for no reason. He took the message from that episode that he couldn’t please everyone. He does not want to abandon his current fans to court ones he may never turn on his side.

“You ever watched Parks and Rec? There’s a really great episode where Leslie is running for city council, and there’s a guy who hates her for no reason. He just has a thing against her. She throws this bowling night and, even though she’s not supposed to, she spends time trying to win him over. The message is that it’s never going to happen.”

“That’s how I feel these days. I’d rather rock and party with the people who are part of all this and the fans. It’s nice to prove fans right and also nice to prove critics wrong, but it’s not my main focus anymore. For a long time, I had a chip on my shoulder, wanting to turn critics around. You can do that to some degree, but when you do, you might discard the ones who are right there, saying, ‘Hey, we got your back.’ Why focus so much on the critics?”
