Missa Kate discusses her departure from the NWA.
Missa Kate announced that she was leaving the National Wrestling Alliance on July 1. Kate, a former NWA World Women’s Tag Team Champion, had been signed to the company since December 2022.
Speaking with Fightful‘s Sean Ross Sapp, Missa Kate discussed her departure from NWA, as Sapp noted that she had been absent from NWA programming for some time before her announcement.
“So there was, I will say, yes, I am no longer part of the NWA,” Missa Kate said. “Before I say anything, I had learned a lot there, so I am very blessed for any experience that I have had there because it’s taught me so much and all the fun jazz, right. Pretty much, there was one of the shows I wasn’t able to get to for personal reasons, but then after that, I did do a set of tapings with them. They haven’t aired those matches, which I was really surprised at, so there are some secret Missa Kate matches in the archive of NWA. One was against Kenzie Paige, one was against Ella Envy. I was proud of those matches, I had a really fun time with them, and it was really exciting. I don’t know what happened to them.
“As far as me not being a part of them anymore, I wish I could have some cool, exciting story where I’m like, ‘Screw them, I hate this place,’ but honestly, it was just [the] end of a contract, and as far as I know, we left on good terms. I wish I had some fun, exciting story, but ultimately, that’s what it came down to. I don’t know on their end,I was surprised that I wasn’t invited back to the pay-per-view or another set of tapings, that surprised me. When I asked, I didn’t get any negate feedback. It was just kind of like, ‘This is not happening this time,’ and I was like, okay.”
Missa Kate On The End Of Her NWA Run
Missa Kate was also asked about the end of her time in NWA, especially how it went after her tag team partner, Madi Wrenkowski, signed with WWE. Kate explained that it was not clear what the plans for her were. She recalled how she stopped getting invited to tapings. Kate said that it seemed like she may not have been in Billy Corgan’s vision.
“After Madi left, obviously, you’re known as a tag team, so you’re just kind of, ‘Where is this gonna go from here?’ But I would consistently try to pick Billy’s brain,” Kate said. “At that time, it’s like, ‘What’s gonna happen?’ But Billy and I had good communication, as far as I knew about giving him ideas and whatnot. He was willing to listen. It was just a matter of his direction and where he saw things. So after she left, it wasn’t so much there.
“It was like, what do we do with me now? I wouldn’t say it wasn’t until recently, the last show I wasn’t invited to, that’s when I was like, ‘What happened? What did I do? Just let me know.’ But it could have been something as simple as I wasn’t in his vision, and that’s fine. Nobody’s ever contacted me saying anything bad. I’m more than willing to listen.
Kate then noted that her deal came up, and she saw the writing on the wall because they weren’t asking for her back. Kate said that she wasn’t going to stay anywhere she wasn’t welcome, and that was the feeling she got, as it seemed like they didn’t see how she could benefit the company.
