NJPW Announces Reorganization Of IWGP Governing Body

NJPW announced a significant change at a joint press conference with STARDOM on July 3.

In a post on their official website, New Japan Pro-Wrestling recapped the press conference, where NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi announced steps for “the reorganization of the IWGP governing body for title matches and tournaments within NJPW.”

Per NJPW, the IWGP Committee will be composed of former IWGP Champions and NJPW executives. The company will make more announcements soon regarding their “commitment to wrestlers and officiating in NJPW events.”

Tanahashi and STARDOM President Taro Okada emphasized that, moving forward, “both NJPW and STARDOM will grow to unforeseen heights together.”

This comes after the company received some criticism when AEW star Jon Moxley won the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at NJPW Windy City Riot. Tetsuya Naito beat Moxley to regain the gold at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.

WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
