Will Ospreay Dedicates AEW Title Match At Forbidden Door To His Grandmother After She Passed Away

Will Ospreay dedicated his match at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door to his grandmother. He announced that she passed away the week of the show.

At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, Will Ospreay is set to challenge Swerve Strickland for the AEW International Championship. Ospreay competed on the June 26 episode of AEW Dynamite, and he had a weigh-in segment on the June 29 episode of AEW Collision.

In a tweet on June 30, Will Ospreay shared a message about his challenging week. Ospreay then opened up about how his grandmother passed away.

“I feel the need to just get it off my chest, just because it’s just been such an overwhelming week for me,” Will Ospreay said. “About an hour away to go over to the UBS Arena for Forbidden Door. It’ll be my first pay-per-view main event with myself and Swerve Strickland fighting for the world title. It’s been such an overwhelming week.

“Tuesday, I landed in America and I was given the news that my Nan passed away, and it’s the first time I’ve ever lost a family member. It’s all been such an emotional week. It’s a sense of relief as well because my Nan was so much pain, so for her to now be at peace is good. But it still doesn’t stop the hurting.”

Will Ospreay On World Title Match

Will Ospreay continued by asking fans to save some of their energy for his match. He said that he would need it. Ospreay stated that this week has been one of the hardest weeks of his entire life.

“I realize that tonight is gonna be a 14-match card, and the energy in that building is gonna be [spent], I really do believe that,” Will Ospreay said. “I don’t envy you guys at all. But if there’s something I can ask, save some of that energy because I’m gonna need it. This has been one of the hardest weeks of my entire life, just to be able to keep all of this in. I bottled everything up and now it’s all coming here. It’s all here right in front of me.

“For the first time, I’m going for the world title in the UBS Arena. I can’t begin to thank AEW, my family, my friends, and everybody for this incredible support system that I’ve had, and to be trusted in the main event. This makes me happy. All that hard work is paying off. So if you guys are in attendance or you guys are watching, send me your good vibes, send me all the love that you got. This one’s for all my family and for my Nan. Love all you guys so much, I hope I don’t let you guys down, and hopefully by the end of the night, I’ll be the first-ever AEW International and World Champion. Thank you so much guys, god bless you all.”

On behalf of WrestleZone, we send our best wishes to Will Ospreay and his family.
