Tony Khan On Ricochet: ‘I’d Rather Not Get Into Wrestlers That Still Work For Someone Else’

Tony Khan refuses to be drawn in talks about Ricochet‘s future while he’s technically employed somewhere else.

The WWE star looks to be on his way out of the company very soon. The former Intercontinental Champion reportedly handed in his notice with the company. His final appearance in WWE was said to be on Raw this week.

Ricochet ended his WWE career by being slammed through a car windscreen by Bron Breakker. It was something CM Punk will probably be furious about. As one of the best high-flyers in the world, he will likely be a hot property when he becomes a free agent.

With Ricochet’s future up in the air, many are hoping to see a rematch between him and Will Ospreay. In a recent interview to promote Forbidden Door, TVInsider‘s Scott Fishman asked Tony Khan about his thoughts of Ricochet, although the AEW President was having none of it.

He shut down the discussion about Ricochet. Khan said that he didn’t want to talk about wrestlers who work for other companies. This was likely to avoid any accusations of contract tampering.

“If it’s okay, I’d rather not get into wrestlers that still work for someone else.” Tony Khan said, shutting down any talk of Ricochet joining AEW.

Ricochet’s match with Will Ospreay pitted two young high-flyers against each, in a bout that divided opinion. Some thought it was incredible, while others, like Vader, thought it was ruining the once-great wrestling business.

Tony Khan: I’m Always Open To Working With Other Wrestling Promotions

Tony Khan continued. He was asked about the current working relationship between TNA and WWE. The AEW boss revealed he’s always open to work with “great wrestling promotions all over the world”. He name-dropped companies like CMLL, Stardom and NJPW, all who will appear at Forbidden Door.

“Since we launched AEW we’ve been looking to work with great wrestling companies across the planet. The relationship with New Japan Pro Wrestling developed in 2021 and built to the point where we teamed to do a co-branded event like Forbidden Door. We’re approaching the third one. It’s a whole new level of great cooperation between wrestling promotions. To see the stars of CMLL and Stardom in addition to the great wrestlers from New Japan Pro Wrestling competing with AEW stars.”

I’m always open to working with great wrestling promotions all over the world. It feels like the spirit of cooperation in worldwide pro wrestling is greater than it has ever been. Which is a big positive. Seeing the top stars of AEW go to Tokyo and compete at Wrestle Kingdom, I think that the fans can always count on AEW and New Japan to put on great collaborations. I think this year’s Forbidden Door will be one of the strongest shows any promotion will put anywhere in the world.
