AEW CEO Tony Khan is also the chief football strategy officer of the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the team has submitted a new proposal to renovate their stadium.
Per David Rumsey of Front Office Sports, the Jaguars and Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan have proposed a stadium renovation agreement at a city council meeting. The proposal has yet to be approved, but it would see $1.4 billion of renovations to EverBank Stadium, plus any potential cost overages. The city would pay $775 million, while the Jaguars would be responsible for $625 million.
Under this proposal, the Jaguars would remain at EverBank Stadium in 2025 and 2026, albeit with reduced capacity. The team would then need to relocate for 2027 before their new venue opens in 2028. This would come with a 30-year lease extension to remain in North Florida. The plan would also see the Jaguars keep playing one home game per season in the United Kingdom.
The Jaguars and Jacksonville officials have gone back and forth over the stadium plan for the last year, leaving the team’s future up in the air.
Khan recently sparked a lot of buzz by appearing in a neck brace at the NFL Draft after The Elite attacked him on AEW Dynamite.
If nothing else, the proposal potentially bodes well for the Jaguars, and some have seen it as a positive sign for Tony Khan.
