Jon Moxley was asleep in Japan during WWE WrestleMania 40.
In the main event of WWE WrestleMania 40, Cody Rhodes challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. John Cena, The Rock, and The Undertaker got involved in the chaotic match. When The Shield’s theme music hit, some fans expected to see AEW star Jon Moxley, formerly known as Dean Ambrose, make an appearance. However, he did not, and Seth Rollins ran in instead.
Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Jon Moxley commented on the situation and noted that he was asleep during the show, as he had traveled to Japan to compete for NJPW.
“I was asleep in Japan when that was going on,” Jon Moxley said. “When I woke up, I had these messages saying, ‘I thought you were coming out!’ And I was like, ‘Coming out where?’ It’s cool that people thought it was me. But I was asleep.”
Tony Khan previously said that WWE did not reach out about potentially bringing Moxley in for a WrestleMania appearance.
Jon Moxley Previews AEW Dynamite Match
Fans did not see Jon Moxley at WWE WrestleMania 40. However, they will see him on the April 24 episode of AEW Dynamite. There, he will defend the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Powerhouse Hobbs. Moxley previewed the bout and highlighted their history.
“One of the first times Will Hobbs was on TV, we were in the ring together at Daily’s Place,” Moxley said. “There was so much to like about him, and he’s worked really hard. Now, back in that same building, we’ll see what he’s got.”
WrestleZone will have coverage of AEW Dynamite as it airs on April 24.
