Moose plans on living up to the name of TNA’s next big event.
No Surrender takes place on February 23 in New Orleans. There, Moose will defend his TNA World Championship against Alex Shelley, the man he beat for the title at Hard To Kill. This time, they will square off in a “No Surrender” match, which means the loser will be the one who has their cornerman throw in the towel on their behalf.
Moose told WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard that he hasn’t thought much about the stipulation because there’s no circumstances that would see him throwing in the towel.
“I haven’t thought about it. I do know what I had talked to my team about and under no circumstance do they throw in the towel. When I say no circumstance,” Moose stressed, “I mean under no circumstance do they throw in the towel. I don’t care what’s going on. The towel will not be thrown.”
Moose added that there wouldn’t be any repercussions if his System stablemates threw in the towel because it’s simply not going to happen.
“There won’t be any repercussions because I know they won’t throw it. That’s not how The System works. We never have to deal with repercussions because that’s not how we work. All you have to do is trust The System.”
“A tough road ahead”
Moose holds a recent victory (and bragging rights) over Shelley, who is now the third-longest reigning TNA World Champion ever. Moose says Shelley deserves praise, but his night at No Surrender won’t be an easy one.
“I never look past any opponent. Every opponent you go against is dangerous in a different way. Alex has a lot more experience than I do in the world of professional wrestling, so that’s what he brings to the table. He had a great run. I believe he had the third longest reign in the company’s history,” Moose noted. “Which says a lot about his reign because there’s a lot of great names on that list that he surpassed, me being one of them. So yeah, nothing but great things for Alex.
“The thing is right now, my height of confidence is higher than it’s ever been in my time of pro wrestling, so he knows exactly what he has to do on his end,” Moose pointed out. “I’m sure he’s going to say the same thing. There’s a reason why I used to call myself The Wrestling God. But I think one of the reasons why I don’t call myself that anymore is because my confidence is so high, I’ve surpassed whatever is over a god. I don’t even know what the word is, so I figured I’d just call myself Moose. That’s how high my confidence is. As great as Alex Shelley is, he has a tough road ahead of him tomorrow night.”
Moose also talked about his gameplan at No Surrender, which may or may not include switching things up a bit. The champion said he knows what he’s capable of, but he’s not giving any more “bulletin board material” than he needs to.
“I guess we’ll have to see tomorrow night what happens, right? But how often do I practice a spear with my left arm? I do it quite a bit actually. I’ve never gotten the chance to use it, but I do practice it, so we’ll see. We’ll see what Alex’s game plan is tomorrow, and I already know what mine is. And I’m not gonna tell you, so that can’t be your next question. I’m sure I’m going to be ready for whatever he brings.”
