WWE SmackDown‘s preliminary viewership increased on January 5.
Wrestlenomics reports that 2.465 million viewers watched the show on Friday night. This number is up from the “Best Of” episode on December 29, when 1.355 million viewers tuned in. 2.108 million viewers watched the previous standard episode on December 22.
In the 18 to 49 demographic, SmackDown scored a 0.67 rating. This also marks an increase from last week (0.28 rating). The December 22 episode drew a 0.55 rating in the key demographic.
What happened on WWE SmackDown this week?
This week’s show kicked off with Kevin Owens defeating Santos Escobar in the finals of the US Championship Contendership Tournament. Owens will face Logan Paul for the title at the Royal Rumble.
The Street Profits and Bobby Lashley were attacked by a returning Authors of Pain and Karrion Kross, forming a new faction in the process.
The main event of the show was a triple threat match that ended in a no-contest between LA Knight, Randy Orton, and AJ Styles due to interference from The Bloodline. Nick Aldis informed Paul Heyman after the match that Roman’s title match at the Royal Rumble is now a fatal four-way.
