Ric Flair says he liked the way Vince McMahon ran WWE, as the company is too political now.
Ric Flair signed with AEW in November, but the WWE Hall of Famer spent many years working under Vince McMahon.
Speaking with Charly Arnoldt on OutKick, Ric Flair discussed the state of the wrestling world today. (H/t Jeremy Lambert of Fightful for the transcription)
“I like the fact that the kids make a lot of money,” Ric Flair said. “That’s the most important thing. Unlike myself, they are more conscious because of the people around them and the culture being different of taking care of their money, paying taxes on time, stuff like that.
“It’s really corporate now, and I dressed the part, but I could never think like that. I don’t have the patience. AEW, very professional, it’s an easier pace. There are politics everywhere in the world, but the WWE right now is very political.”
Ric Flair On WWE Being Political
Ric Flair was then asked to describe why he thinks WWE is political. He stated that everyone wants to run the company, and he noted that he liked the way McMahon ran it.
“I don’t know. The fight for control,” Ric Flair said. “Everybody wants to run WWE. I liked the way Vince ran it. For better or worse, everybody knew where they stood more than they do now. Social media is out of control with stories. You don’t even know what’s real anymore.”
McMahon returned to WWE in January 2023 after he retired amid allegations of sexual misconduct and hush money in July 2022. McMahon now serves as the executive chairman of TKO Group Holdings, which includes WWE and UFC.
