This past week on AEW Dynamite the next set of matches in the Continental Classic tournament took place. One of the matches was the bout in the Gold League between Jon Moxley and Rush.
It was one of the top matches of the night. But it certainly was not without any controversy. After a tough fight, Jon Moxley managed to pick up the win after he locked in the sleeper choke hold. While it may seem like it was a victory via submission, it was really a referee stoppage. While the commentary team also claimed that Rush was knocked out, it was clear that the former ROH World Champion was still conscious. Once the bell rang, he got up and argued with the referee.
Rush didn’t stop there; he came backstage and had a message for Jon Moxley. The former ROH World Champion also took to Twitter to claim that he could easily defeat Moxley.
“I didnt tap out, the ref didnt even check my arm to see if I was out. You have never beaten me clean, everyone knows id beat your f***ing ass in a no rules match. This is becoming personal, and im going to defeat you on tv and prove to the world you cannot handle the BULL!
?,” Rush tweeted.
Jon Moxley comments on defeating Rush
After picking up another three points in the tournament, Moxley claimed that Rush was a tought opponent.
“People acting all week like I was supposed to be scared of Rush. Supposed to be scared of this guy. He’s a lot of bark. Dudes been barking at me my entire life. And it never turns out that they have much bite. Was it a hard match? Yeah. Hell yeah. Will next week against Swerve (Strickland) be a hard match? Yeah. Hell yeah. But as they say, ‘It is a shame for the Helmsman to be surprised when the wind is unfavorable.’ This is the Continental Classic baby. It is supposed to be hard,” Jon Moxley said.
The three-time AEW World Heavyweight Champion also wondered if Swerve Strickland could be the first one to defeat Moxley in the Continental Classic Tournament.
“Being at the top of this sport and staying there is another thing entirely. And it’s very very costly. And for a guy like you, in your position it’s right about now. When you realize it’s a prize you are not willing to pay, are you gonna be the guy that takes me out? Whatever will be, will be. Next week, Swerve Strickland, Jon Moxley, and the ghosts, and the demons that always chase me to the ring. This is going to be something you have never attempted to do before. And it’s going to be a long night. So I suggest you pack a lunch,” Jon Moxley said.
