“I was very curious about what he thought of the movie,” he shared. “We went out to the patio, sat forehead to forehead, and talked about life for an hour and a half. And he told me that he did enjoy the movie. I can’t really put into words how that feels. It’s far and away the most important review to me on so many levels. Jeremy Allen White understands the wrestling business now

During an interview with Deadline Hollywood, Jeremy Allen White shared his thoughts on preparing for the movie. He also appreciated the work of professional wrestlers.

“I mean, I think for sure I have to echo the athleticism. The sport is like dance, gymnastics, combat sport, it’s like so many things. The endurance it takes, but then, I think what struck me in working with Chavo and preparing was like I was thinking about it in the sense like the choreographed fight scene, where I was like, ‘I’ll hit the guy here, and I’ll drop kick here. And I’ll go off the ropes here,’ But I wasn’t thinking of it in the sense of like a full performance, a full narrative, full storytelling.

“The moments in between these moves are oftentimes more important for the audience than the moves themselves, that’s what gets people sucked in, that’s what gets people excited. And so then like your energy, like I’d have this routine. I’d be jumping up and down, off the ropes, and all that stuff, it’d be exhausting. And Chavo would say, ‘And then you have to like charge up.’ ‘Charge up? I’m like wanna breathe first and catch my breath.’ He’s like, ‘No! You gotta be stomping, you gotta be…’ And I think that was the… that was fascinating, understanding I think the wrestling world, and that broader aspect of like the storytelling and these guys as real performers outside of the obvious like athleticism. They are real artists and real performers and real storytellers,” Jeremy Allen White said.
