Alex Hammerstone Reportedly Requests MLW Release

Alex Hammerstone wants out of MLW, but it doesn’t look like he’s going to get his wish granted.

Fightful (via Fightful Select) is reporting Alex Hammerstone has requested his release from the company. It was noted that the relationship between Hammerstone and MLW has become frayed recently. Despite Hammerstone wanting his release, MLW does not intend to grant the request at this time.

Hammerstone’s current deal with MLW is set to run through the end of 2025. Fightful was told that a potential contract buyout was discussed earlier in the year, and Hammerstone said he wanted to leave the promotion.

According to the MLW side of things, Hammerstone’s motivation decreased when he dropped the MLW World Championship to Alex Kane. MLW hopes to retain Hammerstone, and believes that they built a lot of the company around him and want to keep him since he was a big investment as a talent.

On the contrary, Hammerstone had told MLW he was feeling burned out in the company.

Hammerstone hasn’t worked for MLW since July and he is not booked on any upcoming shows. He previously asked off of the company’s September event because of a prior obligation, and it was granted. The money they would have paid him was allocated elsewhere. MLW sources claimed that Hammerstone then became available for that date again, but the budget was no longer available to add him to the lineup.

Hammerstone’s deal has him under a monthly guarantee, with an additional pay-per-event payment. Despite still being under contract, Hammerstone is not featured on the roster page for the MLW website.
