Baron Corbin: I Get To Be An A-Hole On My Own Terms In NXT, Fans Are Loving It

Baron Corbin is really enjoying his latest run in NXT.

Corbin was a free agent after the 2023 WWE Draft, but he ultimately showed up in NXT in May. The Lone Wolf has maintained a regular role on the Tuesday night show, and he’s really enjoyed getting to be himself.

Corbin was a recent guest on the Johnny Dare Morning Show on 98.9 FM Kansas City, and he said fans are getting into his new direction too.

“I’m loving what I’m doing there. Even with that new entrance music, it’s so good. [Triple H] and Shawn [Michaels] and Baldo [Matt Bloom] and Terry Taylor, Johnny, the writers, they are letting me be me,” Corbin explained. “And it’s really awesome. I’m still irritating people, but some people love — the mantra is kinda changing.

“They’re like, ‘Dude, Corbin is getting to be an a-hole on his own terms.’ Like not an annoying a-hole, like [I get to be] a badass a-hole and they’re loving that. They are getting into it. It’s weird,” he noted. “I get these pockets of cheers, I’m like, ‘What is that noise? What is that sound?’ I’ve never heard that before.” [laughs]

Chef Corbin?

Corbin recently spoke with WrestleZone’s Managing Editor, Bill Pritchard. When asked about potentially using his real-life love for culinary arts as a gimmick, Corbin thinks that could’ve been a fun idea but isn’t sure it would have much of a shelf life.

“Yeah, I mean, you could have gone down that road,” Baron Corbin said. “I could have put a butcher apron on and hit people with giant tomahawk steaks, which I think would be hilarious. ‘This is a $200 steak. You’re going down.’ And I think it would have been wild, but it would have been another character, I think, that just didn’t have shelf life.

“I think when you look at Roman Reigns right now, he’s just bringing himself out to the table. The same with guys like Cena; he is not a character. Cena is a guy who personifies ‘never give up.’ He is awesome in what he does, and those guys are just out there doing what they do and feel versus portraying something they’re not. I think that’s why they had the magnitude and the career that they had. That’s kind of where I’m trying to get to.”
