Multiple companies and organizations were affected back in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The wrestling business also took a huge hit. While big companies such as WWE and AEW thrived, other promotions suffered. One such wrestling promotion was Ring of Honor. Former WWE Superstar Silas Young opened up about Ring of Honor shutting down in 2021.
Silas Young is a veteran in the world of professional wrestling. He has competed in multiple promotions, including WWE. Out of all the companies, he’s worked in Ring of Honor for the majority of his career.
Throughout his career, he has captured multiple titles in the independent circuit, such as the All American Wrestling’s Heavyweight Championship. In Ring of Honor, Young had captured the ROH World Television Championship.
Out of all the independent circuit promotions, Ring of Honor was the promotion from which many top stars emerged. Some of the biggest wrestlers were CM Punk, Adam Cole, Samoa Joe, and many more.
While speaking to the Developmentally Speaking podcast, the two-time ROH World Television Champion shared his thoughts on Ring of Honor closing its doors during the pandemic era.
“I think most guys in the wrestling business understand. This is our life,” Young explained. “I was lucky enough to be with Ring of Honor for almost 9 years. Then we started doing tapings and started feeling really good … then all of a sudden, we get told at the end of 2021 ‘at the end of the year, it’s done.’ It’s kinda a kick in the balls,” Silas Young said. In 2022, Tony Khan made the decision to purchase Ring of Honor and the promotion is doing well now.
