Carmelo Hayes is ready for the challenge that’s been placed in front of him tonight on WWE NXT.
Former NXT Champion Superstar Carmelo Hayes was a recent guest on Busted Open Radio. When asked how you keep the attention on the ring tonight with John Cena and Paul Heyman at ringside, Hayes believes they are just going to be seasoning on top of what he and Bron Breakker have been building.
“Yeah, I mean, to credit Bron and myself, we’ve been the two faces of NXT for the longest time,” Carmelo Hayes said. “So I think adding in John and adding in Paul is just like adding a little bit of seasoning on top of what we’ve already been building. They’re going to be great additions to the show, as well as Cody, as well as Asuka, as well as everybody coming in.
“But the main story is Bron and Melo. And that’s been the main story for the last two years of NXT. So people tuning in for the very first time, they’re gonna get a taste of what Bron and Melo have been kind of building, and this is like a combination of everything. Hopefully, people for the first time that are watching you’re saying man, this is why NXT’s been poppin’.”
Is he feeling the pressure with Cena in his corner?
When asked if there is any additional pressure tonight knowing that someone like John Cena is in his corner, Hayes said there is pressure every night, but he knows the task at hand is the keep the new viewers they get to tune in tonight.
“Man, there’s pressure every night,” Carmelo Hayes said. “Especially when they’re trusting you in the positions that they’ve trusted me in so many times. But with having Cena by my side, the pro in me wants to say yes, it’s another day at work, but the kid in me wants to say holy crap; this is so freakin cool.
“But at the same time, I have to realize what task is at hand. The task is bringing all these new eyes that are looking and keeping these guys. Keeping everybody who’s tuning in because John’s not gonna be there every week. Paul’s not going to be there every week.
“So it’s really just, these guys are in a way a catalyst to help bring more viewership to the guys that are going to stay every single Tuesday after this. So it is a pressure, and it’s a responsibility. I feel like they picked the right two people to hold it down.”
NXT has an all-star lineup tonight
When asked if he thinks there will be any deers in the headlights in the NXT locker room tonight with all the star power there, Hayes doesn’t believe that will be the case.
“Absolutely not,” Carmelo Hayes said. “I think we’ve got an all-star lineup. I really do; I think everybody’s a top player. Everybody’s ready. Everybody’s ready to go. So I mean this NXT, I think the guys and girls that are here right now that are featured on TV, minus the people that are getting their feet wet are already for the next step. You know, We’re all kind of the big ticket. So it’s just a matter of just taking that opportunity and running with it.”
