Kerry Morton Unsure If He’d Wrestle Against His Dad, Wants A Tag Title Run With Him

Will Kerry Morton ever step into the ring and stand across from his legendary father?

National Wrestling Alliance star Kerry Morton recently sat down with WrestleZone’s Managing Editor Bill Pritchard. When asked if he’d be open to wrestling his dad Ricky Morton in the future, Morton was uncertain due to their tight relationship.

“I don’t know. Me and my dad have a really, really tight relationship,” Kerry Morton said. “He’s my best friend, so to speak, outside of [Bobby] Eaton and my father in real life too. He always asks me, ‘Kerry, when are you going to turn heel? I can see it in the future, you’re going to do this and that,’ but why can’t I do it with my dad? As you see now, he understands where the future lies. He understands Kerry Morton is the future.

“He’s the now, especially in the NWA. So he got smart with it and, ‘I’m gonna jump on board with you and do what you wanna do. You take charge, and I’ll be on your league.’ So I don’t know. It’s something I could possibly entertain in the future as a friendly wrestling match. If he steps my way toward the NWA Jr. Heavyweight Championship, then we’ll have some talks.”

Kerry pointed out that he and his father still have a Tag Team Championship match coming, as neither one have cashed in their opportunity yet. Kerry isn’t sure what the NWA has planned, but he wants to check another accolade off his list.

“I want some more championship gold, and I want some championship gold with my dad. It’s something he really wants. It would make him a 10-time NWA World Tag Team Champion and maybe my first time. It’s something on our list.

“He’s 66 years old; he’s tired. He’s having a ton of fun. But he knows his time’s up soon. With that being said, I think [he would say], ‘I got one more quick run in me again, and I want to do it with you, and I want Robert at our side too.’ Robert can’t wrestle as much like he used to, but it’s something that we’re teasing, that we’re bringing up, so who knows where the future may lie in the NWA, but I hope it’s gold around the Mortons’ waists.”
