Tony Khan is hopeful he can provide some answers about CM Punk’s status before AEW All Out.
Khan took part in a media call on Thursday where he was asked about CM Punk’s status leading into the pay-per-view. CM Punk and Jack Perry were reportedly involved in a backstage incident at AEW All In. Khan has previously confirmed there was an incident, but declined to provide exact details about what happened.
When asked about CM Punk’s status, Khan said the investigation was ongoing. He would like to be more transparent about the process, but that’s not possible at this time.
“We’re still continuing to investigate an incident that happened before All In. I can’t comment any further about it at this time. I appreciate you asking and if I could say more at this time, I would. I’m still looking into some things,” Khan explained. “I promise I’ve always done my best to be honest with the fans and in this situation I’m doing my best to be honest about what’s happening. I’ve been looking into this and please bear with us. I appreciate you and the fans and we’ll get back to you as soon as we possibly can, I promise.”
A Challenging Situation
Later in the call, Khan was asked when he hoped to provide more answers about CM Punk. Wrestlenomics’ Brandon Thurston noted that Punk’s status may give some fans pause when opting to order the event.
“That is my goal. And that is what I promise, I hope that we have a resolution. I don’t expect a full resolution,” Khan said, “but I at least expect some more information by then. I’m going to keep working on it. It’s a challenging situation, to say the least, Brandon. It’s not something I was hoping to be dealing with but I really appreciate you asking. Thank you.”
Update: Haus Of Wrestling is reporting that Punk and Khan have still not had any direct communication since All In. It was noted that something could always materialize by then, but it’s “highly unlikely” that CM Punk will appear at All Out on Sunday.
