Tony Khan responds to the criticism of AEW All In only having one women’s match.
AEW made history with AEW All In at Wembley Stadium on August 27. However, critics have pointed out that the show only had one women’s match on the card. Saraya won a four-way bout to win the AEW Women’s World Championship.
At the AEW All In post-show media scrum, Tony Khan was asked about AEW All In only having one women’s match and whether fans could expect to see more on future pay-per-views. He emphasized that, in booking AEW All In, he aimed to get as many top stars on the card as possible.
“Well, we’ve announced Ruby versus Kris Statlander for the TBS Championship. We’ll have to see what kind of condition Saraya is in coming out of this match. It’s a great question. A lot of the card tonight was both featuring as many of the top stars in AEW as I could get, so a lot of the biggest stars in the company were not on this show. That’s why we have big matches like Miro versus Powerhouse Hobbs, and obviously, Ruby Soho versus Kris Statlander next week.
“I think the pacing of the show tonight was probably the best we’ve ever had. So to add more I think would have been challenging. But also, we have so many great stars across both the men’s and women’s division, great wrestlers.”
Khan went on to describe how he tried to pace the card perfectly, and he believed that the pacing was “pretty great.” He then highlighted how the show paid homage to the original All In event.
“I think the card, in many ways, I tried to pace it perfectly, and I think we did pretty great. One thing I would note, and you said it yourself, a lot of the card was paying homage to the original All In,” Tony Khan said. “The four-way match, Dr. Britt Baker participated on the original All In. That was the key women’s match on the original show. Madison Rayne pointed that out in her commentary. She was also in that original four-way.”
Tony Khan Hopes AEW Can Get All The Top Stars On The Card
Tony Khan then stated that he hopes to get all the top stars on the card. He also pointed out that plenty of performers want to be on the show. Additionally, he expressed that he’s also concerned about pacing the card. Khan noted that he wants the shows to be able to have great matches without rushing them.
“Definitely, there were a lot of top stars, men and women, I was hoping to get on tonight’s card. There were a lot of people that wanted to be on the show,” Tony Khan said. “I hope we can continue to get all the top stars in. But also I want to pace the shows and be able to have great matches without having to rush through.
“So I was really excited about the card, and also very happy for Saraya. I thought it was a great moment. I would love to try and get some of those top stars in All Out and also next year’s All In.”
