Baron Corbin wants to stay in WWE NXT, at least for a little while longer.
Corbin, a former Money in the Bank and King of the Ring winner, returned to NXT on the May 30 episode of WWE NXT. There, he attacked NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes. Corbin has been a featured member of the roster ever since.
Speaking with Joey Karni for The Angle Podcast ahead of WWE SummerSlam, Corbin was asked whether NXT is his home, or if he can move around all three shows. Corbin stated that he is still a free agent, but he is fighting to stay in NXT for a bit.
“I’m still on all three shows, but I am fighting to stay in NXT a little bit because I really just want to give our audience a good break from me, give them a few months without me driving them nuts. So I would like to personally stay in NXT for a couple more months and just really fine-tune the details of that I’m trying to bring to the people.
“NXT is great. I also love working with the superstars down there. They’re hungry, they’ve got a lot of excitement, they love this. It elevates your passion, your energy for what we do. It’s a fun place to be. They could call me for SmackDown tonight, I don’t know. I don’t know what’s happening, but I’m loving it.”
Baron Corbin Talks Going Back To His Roots
In the same interview, Baron Corbin was asked about going back to his roots with his NXT and rediscovering himself. He made it clear that he’s enjoying the chance to be himself.
“It’s awesome. That was the mentality, when you say ‘Burn the ships.’ To me, it was like alright, let’s get past everything I’ve done,” Corbin said. “Let’s make something make something brand new, the way I move in the ring, the way I act in the ring, the way I carry myself.
“I was like, I just want to do it as me. I’ve spent a lot of time now playing these characters from Happy Corbin, Sad Corbin, the King, Constable, true characters if you will. I was like, man, I just kind of want to do me for a little bit. Shawn has let me do that. It’s awesome, so its real special. I’m gonna take a lot of pride in this.”
