AEW Collision Results (8/5/23): CM Punk Defends Against Ricky Starks, FTR Defends Against Brian Cage & Big Bill

AEW Collision Results – August 5, 2023

This week’s episode of AEW Collision kicks off with promos from CM Punk, Ricky Starks, FTR, and Prince Nana with Brian Cage and Big Bill to hype up two of tonight’s big title matches.

FTR defeated Big Bill and Brian Cage (w/ Prince Nana) to retain the AEW World Tag Team Titles

  • FTR hits the Shatter Machine on Brian Cage. Cash Wheeler scores the pinfall victory for his team to retain the titles.

Harwood gets on the microphone and says they are gonna get in trouble tonight, but they are in the Carolinas so it’s okay. Harwood details the last decade of FTR’s career and how they’ve held championship gold everywhere they’ve gone.

Dax Harwood says there is one thing left for FTR to do to become the greatest tag team of all time. Harwood calls out The Young Bucks. FTR wants a rubber match with The Young Bucks at All In for the AEW World Tag Team Titles.

A video package plays hyping up tonight’s title match between CM Punk and Ricky Starks for the “Real World Championship.”

Tony Schiavone interviews Juice Robinson backstage with the Jay White cardboard cutout. White comes in and takes out the cardboard cutout and says that’s what will happen to Metalik later on tonight. He brings in The Gunns who mock Schiavone’s commentary lines as the four men throw their gun fingers in Schiavone’s face.

Kris Statlander defeated Mercedes Martinez to retain the AEW TBS Championship

  • Kris Statlander executes a roll-up bridge on Mercedes Martinez to score the pinfall victory.

Mercedes Martinez attacks Statlander after the match, Diamante comes down to make the save but turns on Statlander and joins in on the beatdown. This brings out Willow Nightingale to even the odds and chases Martinez and Diamante off.

Tony Schiavone attempts to interview Toni Storm backstage, who is an emotional basket case over losing the AEW Women’s World Championship to Hikaru Shida. This was a very odd segment.

Ring of Honor World Television Champion Samoa Joe defeated Serpentico

  • Samoa Joe wins via submission with the coquina clutch in a squash match that lasted under ten seconds.

Samoa Joe takes the microphone and says they are heading into All In and he doesn’t have an opponent. Joe says CM Punk is claiming to be the best in the world and he’s never been better than him a day in his life.

Samoa Joe says he recently lost to him but a rollup is not worthy of their legacy. Joe says to give him and the people what they want and to give their legacy what they deserve with a match at All In. Joe says his courtesy only extends to this week, if he makes him wait til next week, he’ll convince him.

A video package plays featuring Andrade El Idolo who got his mask back last week in a ladder match against Buddy Matthews.

The Acclaimed have a sitdown interview with Tony Schiavone backstage. Anthony Bowens says they’ve tried to give him his boots back but he wouldn’t take them. Bowens says Gunn blames himself for them losing the tag titles and losing both Trios Title matches to the House of Black.

Max Caster says he wants to respect Billy’s decision and if he’s done; he’s done. But Caster believes Gunn still has a lot left to give the team. Bowens says he hopes Gunn is watching because he wants him to know how much he’s given the team. Bowens says they are gonna take his boots with them to the ring every time they wrestle.

The Acclaimed will be in action on AEW Collision next week.

The House of Black defeated Darius Martin, Action Andretti, and Lee Johnson to retain the AEW Trios Titles

  • Brody King pins Darius Martin to secure the victory for his team.

It’s announced that CMFTR will challenge The House of Black for the Trios Titles next week on AEW Collision.

QT Marshall once again tries to apologize to Powerhouse Hobbs backstage. He covers him a big gold chain and an opportunity to compete in a big match at AEW All Out, what match that would be wasn’t specified. Hobbs says he doesn’t need or want Marshall’s help but took the gold chain and walked off.

Christian Cage brings his daughter to AEW Collision

Christian Cage and Luchasaurus are backstage with Tony Schiavone. Cage has his daughter with him who looks terrified to be there. Christian says he brought his daughter to prove a point. Cage says as the TNT Champion he’s a role model to children everywhere.

Christian says Darby Allin is annoying him by mentoring a kid like Nick Wayne and says he has no business being in his ring. Cage’s daughter asks to hold the title and he asks if she won it. Cage says only people who won it can hold the title. He sends his daughter away and tells her to go find her mother. Cage says he’s the TNT Champion now and forever.

Jay White defeated Metalik

  • Jay White hits the Bladerunner on Metalik to score the pinfall victory.

Bullet Club Gold celebrates together in the ring following the match.

It’s announced that Anna Jay will challenge Hikaru Shida this Wednesday on AEW Dynamite for the AEW Women’s World Championship.

What will happen on AEW Collision next week?

  • CMFTR takes on The House of Black for the AEW Trios Titles
  • TBS Champion Kris Statlander and Willow Nightingale team up to face Mercedes Martinez and Diamante

Jim Ross joins the commentary team to call tonight’s main event. Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat is introduced as tonight’s special guest referee.

CM Punk defeated Ricky Starks to retain the “Real World Championship”

  • Ricky Starks gets into an argument with Ricky Steamboat, which allows CM Punk to roll Starks up and get the win.

Ricky Starks snaps and attacks Ricky Steamboat after the match. Starks whips Steamboat with a belt as Punk gets back in the ring with a steel chair to run him off. Punk asks for a doctor to check on Steamboat as he chases Starks off again. Punk continues to check on Steamboat as AEW Collision goes off the air.
