Shayna Baszler and Ronda Rousey aren’t taking the typical WWE approach with their upcoming match at SummerSlam.
RAW Superstar Shayna Baszler was a recent guest on Busted Open Radio. When it was mentioned how great it is to see a women’s feud get a big match on SummerSlam that isn’t connected to a championship, Baszler said they’ve gone out of their way to be different with this story.
“I think it’s cool too, because we’ve purposely, and it’s been a lot of discussion. Another thing that fans either like or don’t like, which is, I guess, everything in the world, but whatever. But we’ve purposely made it not be this kind of clear-cut black-and-white babyface heel thing.
“When you tune in to boxing or the UFC, you’re not like, ‘You haven’t told me it was a bad guy is. Who am I supposed to cheer for?’ You kind of just cheer for who you like, and we’ve, on purpose made it be like both of us are right here. And now people like me because they hate Ronda.

Baszler continued by emphasizing that fans will cheer for who they like in the feud. She made it clear that she and Rousey wanted to make the story as real as possible.
“So we’ve maybe played off that a little bit, but this is just like a fight. You’re gonna cheer for who you like. We’re not spoon-feeding to you good guy, bad guy. We don’t need to do that in this. We sat down at the beginning of this and said if we want to make this as real as we can make it, what do we have to do?
“Let’s not be talking about this black-and-white heel babyface thing. Let’s just let people cheer for who they want to cheer. As long as they’re making noise, you know what I mean? And it’s been really fun to see the discussion like, people don’t really know, but they want me to win. Or they think I’m a terrible friend. My nieces are not on my side. Because they agree with Ronda, and that’s fine as long as they’re invested.”
