Tony Khan Talks Getting ‘The Final Countdown’ For AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door

AEW CEO Tony Khan discusses getting “The Final Countdown” for Bryan Danielson at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.

Danielson faced Kazuchika Okada at the pay-per-view, and on his way to the ring, “The Final Countdown” played, much to the fans’ delight, as he hadn’t used the song as his entrance since his days in Ring of Honor.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Khan shared his thoughts on the pay-per-view and noted that it was one of the best things AEW has done. When asked whether he had a favorite moment, he pointd to the first time Danielson raised his arms during his entrance as the fans sang, “It’s the final countdown.”

“I had a few favorite moments,” Khan said. “On a sentimental level, I thought the matches were amazing, Ospreay versus Omega was phenomenal. On a personal level, it really meant a lot to me as Bryan scaled the ropes for the first time, and as he raised his arms, and the crowed

When asked to describe what changed in the process of trying to secure the rights for the song, Khan stated that they had been negotiating for years, and they finally reached a deal.

“We were negotiating for years, trying to get the deal done, and this is the best rate I ever got recently,” Khan said, “It was something that I felt would add to the presentation of Forbidden Door, and Bryan/Okada is one of those special matches, and anything I could do to add to the presentation and make the night more special, I really wanted to do. That’s what led to ‘The Final Countdown’ at Forbidden Door.”

Danielson suffered an injury during his match against Okada, and Brie Garcia shared an update. More information is available here.
