Baron Corbin revived The Lone Wolf persona for his title match on the June 27 episode of WWE NXT.
The second week of NXT Gold Rush concluded with Baron Corbin challenging Carmelo Hayes for the NXT Championship. To mark the special occasion, Corbin made his way out to his former theme song while wearing leather as he used to during his “Lone Wolf” days in NXT in 2015 and 2016.
Despite his previous years spent competing for the brand, this marked Corbin’s first televised match for the NXT title. He used his size as an advantage against Hayes for the majority of the match as Hayes was also weakened from his bout against Finn Balor on WWE RAW on Monday.
Corbin came close to victory with an impressive Deep Six, however Hayes was able to secure the three-count following his signature top-rope leg drop. As a result, Hayes retained the NXT Championship in his fourth defense.
