Tony Khan Comments On Mercedes Moné Injury Possibly Changing Forbidden Door Plans

Was there a potential Mercedes Moné appearance in the works for Forbidden Door 2 before her untimely injury?

Ahead of this weekend’s AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view, Tony Khan took part in a media call to answer a wide variety of questions. When asked if Mercedes Moné’s injury at Resurgence altered any plans for Forbidden Door 2, Khan put over Willow Nightingale‘s win over the weekend and teased Moné’s potential involvement with All Elite Wrestling in the future.

“I absolutely believe Willow is capable of being a great champion and having great matches, and that’s why I chose her to go to New Japan,” Tony Khan said. “Now, going forward, it does make things a little bit interesting because nobody really knows besides Mercedes and myself what was going to happen there and what the future would hold for her.

“Whether that was competing exclusively in New Japan or potentially also whether she’d be at Forbidden Door and frankly now even going forward, I don’t think anybody but her knows when she’ll be ready to come back to the ring, but I have so much respect for Mercedes, and I think she has been a great champion all over the world, including in New Japan.

“And she would have been a great first-ever STRONG champion, but I think we have a great champion now in Willow, and we’ll look to utilize Willow in AEW, possibly in ROH, and also take advantage of that great beautiful new championship belt that she’s holding also.”
