Brock Lesnar brutally attacked Cody Rhodes ahead of their highly anticipated match at WWE Night of Champions, and not even a special appearance by Triple H could change Cody’s mind about persevering through an apparent injury.
As WWE RAW went on the air on May 22, Lesnar assaulted Rhodes just as he was entering the building. Lesnar slammed Rhodes through a table and smashed his arm with a metal canister.
Lesnar subsequently made his way to the ring and, under the assumption that Rhodes would be unable to compete, he issued an open challenge for WWE Night of Champions. Rhodes, with his arm in a sling, came out and tried to fight “The Beast”, but Lesnar trapped him in a Kimura and snapped his arm. It was clear that Rhodes was badly hurt, and his status for the premium live event was up in the air.
In the closing minutes of WWE RAW, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H arrived at Cody Rhodes’ locker room and said that Rhodes needed medical attention. Rhodes waived off the idea, while Triple H responded by saying that he knows the arm was broken. Rhodes said that even if his arm was broken, he still has legs and he was fine.
Cody stated that being a coward would be worse than missing the match, and with that in mind, he would still fight Lesnar at WWE Night of Champions. Triple H gave him a pat on the back and walked away, as he knew he couldn’t change Cody’s mind.
