Billy Corgan: Fans Are Not Going To Book The NWA, I’m Going To Do It My Way

NWA President Billy Corgan has no problem listening to the fans, but when it comes to his booking of the National Wrestling Alliance, Corgan is going to do it his way.

Speaking to Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post, Corgan provided a look into his mindset regarding booking. He brought up the way letting fans book something can cause problems, and he avoids that approach with the NWA.

“We’ve seen where Star Wars let the fans book the franchise, and it’s caused a bunch of problems,” Corgan said. “I’ve said openly that the fans are not going to book the NWA,” Corgan said.

Corgan also pointed to his music career as another example to illustrate his approach. The Smashing Pumpkins frontman noted that he is used to people trying to tell him what to do, but he didn’t listen with his music, so he won’t be doing it in the world of wrestling.

“There’s an old saying — live by the sword, die by the sword — I’ve been in the public life for 30 years,” said Corgan. “I’ve had everybody and their mother tell me how to make my music. I’ve flown against the grain for 30 years. It’s worked out fine. I’m going to book the NWA the way I want to book it. That’s it.”

That being said, Corgan also stated that NWA wrestlers get a degree of creative freedom, and they collaborate with backstage agents to put together matches and storylines.

NWA will present the Crockett Cup pay-per-view on June 3 and 4, and the bracket for the tag team tournament has been revealed. More information is available here.
