AJ Styles is happy to be back in the world title picture.
After four months of being out of action due to a broken ankle, AJ Styles is back in action and is gearing up for a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match against Seth Rollins. Styles won the SmackDown side of the World Heavyweight Championship tournament, and Rollins emerged victorious on Raw’s half of the bracket. They will clash in the tournament finals at WWE Night of Champions.
During a recent interview with Alex McCarthy of Inside The Ropes, Styles discussed his upcoming opportunity.
“I feel the same as you. It’s about time I’m back in the heavyweight title picture,” Styles said. “Unfortunately, I’m up against Seth Rollins, who’s probably one of the best. I said it a long time ago that he’s gonna be great, and nothing has changed. He’s still one of the best, no doubt about it, so we’ll see what happens.”
Styles was also asked if he had a chip on his shoulder going into the triple threat match with Rey Mysterio and Edge considering all three of them are over 40. But for him, that wasn’t the case.
“I think you’re reading too much into it,” Styles replied. “It just kind of came together, and we were all excited about what was about to happen. The great thing about us is our timing is pretty much where it should be, so this stuff was easy to us. I really had a good time in that match. I enjoyed it, and we were moving the whole time. It’s not like we were taking some time off and laying there. We were moving.”
Styles said that he had a lot of fun being in the ring with them and surprisingly couldn’t pull the “vet card” because Edge and Mysterio both had more experience than him.
