John Cena believes The Fast and the Furious franchise should continue as long as the movies are exceptional.
WWE Legend John Cena recently sat down with Megan Ryte of Extra to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked what he pulled from his WWE character to become the action star he is today, Cena said he would have answered this question very differently a few years ago.
“I would have answered that question a lot different a few years ago,” John Cena admitted. “I think the nuances of each avenue of performance are so different. But at your core, you’re trying to keep an audience’s attention. So now, as I get into a little bit more of a comfort zone on film, I can see where they run parallel.
“So I think I developed a lot of habits that were accessible and prosperous in live performances that don’t transfer to film. And now I’m developing a different lane in film, but I see like, oh man, this is kind of like when I did this in my performance. So a while ago, they were oil and vinegar, or boiling water, and now I see the parallels between the two. So I’m at that point where I feel I’m gaining fluency on film, and I can see the parallel it runs with sports entertainment.”
When asked if he thinks we really need another Fast and Furious movie in the future, Cena compares it to Wrestlemania and believes as long as it’s good and it’s entertaining who it’s made for, that’s all that matters.
“I mean, we just performed in the 39th installment of WrestleMania. My philosophy as long as it’s good, that’s all that matters,” John Cena said. “And Fast, continuously, and you got box office data to back it up, continuously entertains the world installation after installation.
“So I think anyone who says, ‘Do we really need another one?’ I compare it to a fan who says, ‘But isn’t wrestling fake?’ They just don’t understand what we do. And they just don’t understand what this is about. And as long as the movies are exceptional, which this one might be my favorite one of all time, and I kind of go deep into the Fast library, but this is a great ride.
“And I think people are going to get out of the theater and want to see another one. So if someone makes that comment, which they’re absolutely entitled to. I just think they don’t understand what it is that we do.”
