“Jungle Boy” Jack Perry says he’ll never be like MJF when it comes to promos.
Perry has climbed the ladder into AEW‘s main event scene over the past few months, especially since he defeated Christian Cage at AEW Revolution. The former AEW World Tag Team Champion is not known for his promo skills, but he continues to shine.
Speaking with Simon Miller for WhatCulture Wrestling, Perry commented on his growth as a wrestler, both with his in-ring skills and with his promo abilities. He noted that he focused on wrestling when he was on the independent scene, and he stated that promos aren’t his favorite thing to do. However, Perry stated that he doesn’t worry about promos anymore, and he aims to improve.
“With the promo thing, I didn’t really think about that on the indies,” Perry said. “All I really wanted to do was wrestle. When I was a kid, I wanted to wrestle and do cool stuff. I feel like I’ve got that down for the most part, I feel pretty confident I can go in there with anyone in the world and throw down. The promo stuff, it was funny. I got a lot of flak in the beginning. I said, I was like, ‘Ah, I want to run away when they make me do it.’ People thought that was a literal thing.
“That’s an expression. It’s not my favorite thing to do. I’m never gonna be like MJF and show up and request 30 minutes to go out there and blabber on. But that being said, I don’t really care anymore. I’d like to improve a little every time as I go. It is what it is now. It’s gotta be done. I’m not that worried about it. I’m feeling more comfortable all the time, so we’ll see.”
On the May 17 episode of AEW Dynamite, Perry will face RUSH. Check out the card here.
Perry will challenge for the AEW World Championship in a four-way match at AEW Double or Nothing.
