Will Ospreay and other stars will battle it out for a shot at the gold.
NJPW announced that, following IWGP United States Champion Kenny Omega’s defense against Jeff Cobb on the March 29 episode of AEW Dynamite, a new challenger is needed. With that in mind, a mini-tournament will stretch across NJPW Collision in Philadelphia, Resurgence, and Dominion, and the winner will earn the right to challenge for the title.
Juice Robinson will face Lance Archer at NJPW Collision in Philadelphia, and Hiroshi Tanahashi will battle Will Ospreay at NJPW Resurgence on May 21. The winners of these bouts will clash for the title shot at NJPW Dominion on June 4. It’s currently unclear when the championship match will take place.
Ospreay has been out of action due to a shoulder injury since he beat Mark Davis in the New Japan Cup on March 13. As of this writing, his match with Tanahashi will mark Ospreay’s return to the ring.
WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
