MJF shares his thoughts on WWE‘s agreement with Endeavor, which will see WWE merge with UFC and form a new company.
Speaking with the media after he was given the Key to the Town of Oyster Bay (video via haskell420), the AEW World Champion was asked to comment on WWE’s merger with UFC.
“It’s exciting. To me, a rising tide lifts all ships, and the more professional wrestling is in the media, the better,” MJF said. “Which is why, as world champion, the best thing that Tony Khan ever did was give me the opportunity to wrestle for the belt and beat that loser, Jon Moxley, so I can rise the ship that is All Elite Wrestling.
“Now, AEW, when you talk about professional wrestling, you can’t not talk about AEW, and you damn sure can’t not talk about Maxwell Jacob Friedman. So I think both companies right now are white-hot. I think, in my opinion, this is the belt. If you want to be at the pinnacle of our profession as a professional wrestler, this is the belt to win, the belt to hold, and I’m the guy to beat, and ain’t nobody gonna beat me because I’m a Long Islander, and you can’t beat a Long Islander.
The “bidding war of 2024,” MJF’s looming free agency, also came up in the conversation. MJF stated that it will be a battle of the Khans (Tony Khan and Nick Khan), and right now, he’s happy to be the face of AEW. MJF also noted that he believes Tony Khan will do whatever it takes to keep him.
“It’s a battle of the Khans, and we’ll see who wins,” MJF said. “But what I will say, right now I am very happy to be the face of my promotion. I’m very happy to be, let’s be honest, the biggest minute-for-minute draw on Wednesday nights by a landslide. No offense everybody else on the roster, it’s just a fact. Tony Khan is very fortunate to have me, and I have a feeling he’s going to do whatever he takes to keep it as such.”
MJF will celebrate MJF Day on the April 5 episode of AEW Dynamite.
