Roman Reigns comments on potentially facing The Rock.
For years, fans have speculated about a match between Reigns and The Rock, as they are two of the top stars in the world of sports entertainment. “The Tribal Chief” reigns supreme as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion; his run dates back to August 2020. Given his dominance, many fans have speculated that The Rock could come back and face his cousin in a major WrestleMania match.
The bout was reportedly in the plans at some point, but it never came to fruition. Instead, Reigns will face Cody Rhodes at WWE WrestleMania 39, and The Rock has yet to return to WWE.
Speaking with Ariel Helwani of BT Sport, Reigns was asked whether a match with The Rock was ever close to happening, and the champion stated that he didn’t know.
“I don’t really know that,” Reigns said. “That’s more of a Wiseman [thing]. Some of this stuff, I don’t necessarily want on my plate, so that’s why having a Special Counsel is so brilliant because we’re able to sift through the things, filter the things that I need to worry about and the things that I don’t need to worry about. This weekend is a great example of that.”
When Helwani noted that a match between the two stars was teased on Young Rock, Reigns replied by calling “The Great One” a smart businessman who knows what he’s doing.
Reigns was then asked whether the match was ever close to becoming a reality at WrestleMania 39, Reigns stated that it hadn’t gotten to that point with him because he’s throughly tied into his active work in WWE.
“Not with me because I’m just so thoroughly tied into what I’m doing within the WWE,” he said. “That’s why you haven’t seen me in a movie. That’s why you haven’t seen me cameo in this or that. They’re available. I can do that stuff any time I want. But I’m so… and this, even with where I’m not on every loop, I’m not doing all the house shows, there’s particular shows that I do, but I’m never out. I’m always in. If I’m not producing, I’m directing. I’m always a part of it. I’m always thinking and grinding Bloodline. It never shuts off. So for me, it’s a built-in situation.”
WrestleZone will have coverage of WWE WrestleMania 39 Night Two as it airs on April 2.
