Rey Mysterio finally beat his son at WWE WrestleMania 39.
For months, Dominik Mysterio has been tormenting his father by attacking him on multiple occasions, both on WWE programming and at his own house. Rey repeatedly refused to fight him, but he changed his mind when Dominik disrespected his mother.
At WWE WrestleMania 39, father and son waged war in a match that was full of highlights. Before the bell rang, a video package showed “Prison Dom” getting escorted out of his cell by guards. At the arena, a “Correction” van pulled up, and Dominik was seated inside. Wearing a Rey Mysterio mask, Dominik came to the ring, accompanied by officers the whole way down.
Rey also made a special entrance; Snoop Dogg drove him out in a lowrider in a tribute to the late Eddie Guerrero.
Rey and Dominik then battled it out in an emotional match. Dominik repeatedly confronted his mother, Angie, and his sister, Aalyah, who were at ringside for the bout. Rey took off his belt and whipped his son. Dominik went on to throw a drink in Aalyah’s face, prompting Rey to take the fight to him. Rey then kissed his wife in an emotional moment.
Finn Balor and Damian Priest of the Judgment Day came to ringside at one point and distracted Rey. They nearly helped Dominik score the win, as Dominik hit Rey with the 619 and got a near fall with a frog splash. Santos Escobar, Cruz Del Toro, and Joaquin Wilde of the Latino World Order came to the ring and took the duo out.
Dominik tried to cheat to win as he brought out a steel chain, planning to use it on his father. But Bad Bunny, who had joined the Spanish commentary team for the match, interfered and stopped Dominik. Rey capitalized and hit the 619 for the win.
After the bell, Rey celebrated with Angie and Aalyah to cap off his remarkable weekend, as he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on March 31.
