John Cena is set to star in another film, with the star set to in the upcoming Amazon action comedy Grand Death Lotto alongside Simu Liu and Awkwafina.
The film is set to be directed by Paul Feig and written by Rob Yescombe, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, will take place in California in the near future, and follow a lottery winner (Awkwafina) who has to live long enough to claim her prize, as a new rule allows people to kill lottery winners and legally claim their winnings.
“New LA transplant Katie (Awkwafina) accidentally finds herself with the winning ticket and must join forces with amateur jackpot protector Noel (Cena) to make it to sundown in order to claim her multi-billion dollar prize, all while dealing with Noel’s protection rival Louis Lewis (Liu), who also wants to get her to sundown in order to claim his rich protection commission,” reads the film’s synopsis.
To celebrate the announcement, Cena took to Twitter, sharing a photo that Amazon tweeted of Cena, Awkwafina, and Feig as they posed following their first week of filming. In his tweet, Cena thanked Amazon Studios for taking a chance on the film, and said the film is set to hit the jackpot.
