Andy Kaufman Will Be Inducted Into 2023 WWE Hall Of Fame

Andy Kaufman is set to be inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame.

According to a new report from Variety, WWE will induct legendary comedian and actor Andy Kaufman into the WWE Hall Of Fame this year. Kaufman would join Rey Mysterio and The Great Muta in the 2023 Hall Of Fame class.

Best known for his work as Latka Gravas on “Taxi”, Kaufman is also notorious for his work in professional wrestling. Kaufman had a routine where he declared himself the Inter-Gender Wrestling Champion of the World, and he ended up feuding with Jerry “The King” Lawler in the Continental Wrestling Association in Memphis.

The pair, who were friends in real life, made an infamous 1982 appearance on Late Night with David Letterman where Lawler slapped Kaufman and knocked him on the floor. Lawler later re-created the segment in the 1999 biopic Man On The Moon, in which Kaufman was played by Jim Carrey.

Kaufman passed away in 1984 after being diagnosed with large-cell carcinoma of the lung. No word on if Tony Clifton will appear at the ceremony.

WWE has not selected an inductor for Kaufman yet. Jerry Lawler suffered a stroke in February and it’s unknown if he would be healthy enough to attend the Hall Of Fame ceremony.

The 2023 WWE Hall Of Fame ceremony will air on March 31 at 10:30 pm ET on Peacock, taking place after “SmackDown” at the Crypto.com Arena.
