Tony Khan has plenty of respect for Mercedes Moné, but he can’t comment any further on if fans will see her appear in AEW.
During his AEW Revolution post-show media scrum, Tony Khan was asked about the rumors that Mercedes Moné was the original mystery partner teased for Saraya’s match against Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter. Khan was asked by Bleacher Report’s Phil Lindsey if he could comment on those talks or his potential interest in working with Mercedes now.
“I have a ton of respect for the IWGP Women’s World Champion. She’s a tremendous wrestler. I wouldn’t want to comment on discussions I’m having with any wrestler who’s a free agent,” Khan explained, “in particular a wrestler who’s a champion of one of our partners. But ton of respect for that great wrestler, and that’s somebody any wrestling company would be very fortunate to have wrestling for them.”
In the build-up to that match, speculation grew after Britt Baker made a comment about being the Boss in AEW. Saraya was asked about the identity of her partner prior to the match, and she told the press she didn’t know anything about being in Los Angeles for that particular show. Saraya ultimately teamed with Toni Storm in the tag team match that took place in January.
Mercedes Moné returned to the ring at Wrestle Kingdom 17, winning the IWGP Women’s Championship from Kairi. She is set to have another match in Japan in April.
