Microman has a fan in MSL.
During a recent interview with WrestleZone, MLW COO Mister St. Laurent (aka MSL) spoke about Microman’s arrival in the league and how he’s won over fans.
“The way this whole Micro Mania thing started, when we go back a year or so, whatever it’s been where I made a public declaration. It was completely legitimate and sincere that I wanted to scout talent from all over the world. I wanted to find out who’s the best pound-for-pound guy that hasn’t been discovered yet,” he explained. “And I did; I went on trips, I went to independent shows. I went to international events, just trying to find a guy that the US hadn’t seen yet.
“And in my mind, it didn’t matter if it was a heavyweight. It didn’t matter if it was a middleweight. Who’s the best pound for pound? And then you have this ‘ta-da!’ moment. When you see Microman for the first time and its baby Yoda come to real life. And sure, you have the initial shock factor when you see how genuinely small he is,” MSL noted. “Even compared to other mini wrestlers that there have been in the past.
“But I think what really sank everything for me was just how great he was in the ring. This guy is not a novelty wrestler. He’s the real deal,” he said. “He’s incredible. And so I think organically, at first, it was important to show that he can wrestle, show the fans that this is not a gimmick. He really just is an incredible wrestler that weighs 62 pounds.”
Microman Is Legit
Microman is now engaged in a feud with Real1 (fka nZo/Enzo Amore) and the two will square off on the March 28 episode of MLW Underground. MSL said Microman had an initial direction in MLW and he could show off his wrestling skills. Once that was established, it allowed him to branch out and do more storytelling elements and put him in new situations.
“Once the fans got a chance to see, hey, this kid’s legit. This kid’s actually a great wrestler. Then I think you have a little more flexibility of this; put him in some two on two situations. Let’s put him in some one on one situations. Let’s see what he’s got outside of his comfort zone,” MSL said. “You’ve mentioned where this journey is heading. And I think it’s gonna be a fascinating journey to watch.”
MSL also spoke about one of MLW’s other new additions, Sam Adonis. MSL said the CMLL star is a natural heel, but MLW is the perfect place to let Adonis be himself.
“Look, he’s one of the biggest pains in my ass of anybody in the company. That’s one of the beautiful things about MLW. We don’t have like a room of writers telling you who to be. We try to find the best athletes that are available. We throw them out there and let them do their thing. Microman is genuinely one of the nicest, most heartfelt young men I’ve ever met in my life,” MSL explained. “Sam Adonis is a giant raging asshole. And I think that’s part of the magic of MLW. We’re not trying to force anybody to be something that they’re not. The fans can see right through that. I think that’s such an archaic way of looking at pro wrestling. Just let the wrestlers go be themselves, and the chips fall where they may.”
