Billy Corgan has high aspirations for the National Wrestling Alliance.
National Wrestling Alliance owner Billy Corgan recently sat down with Paul Guzzo of the Tampa Bay Times to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about the current growth of the company, Corgan compared it to a band playing clubs and small theaters. Going as far as to say he believes the National Wrestling Alliance can once again rise to international prominence.
“[NWA is] the equivalent of a band playing clubs and small theaters,” Billy Corgan said. “We’re building an audience, brick by brick, around the country. The NWA can rise again to international prominence.”
Billy Corgan has been involved in professional wrestling in one form or another over the last two decades. His latest venture with the National Wrestling Alliance came to fruition after departing IMPACT Wrestling. A company he poured significant money into and later took Dixie Carter to court over it.
“And here we are,” Billy Corgan said. “It was like that old house on the market that everyone knew about, but no one wanted. I came along and saw real value in it. Five years later, we’re producing 100 hours of television and five pay per view events in 2023.”
While many fans aren’t taking to Corgan’s “NWA style” in 2023, the lead singer of The Smashing Pumpkins says he still talks to fans who recognize that the style he’s producing is helping the company grow again.
“I am told repeatedly that our style of wrestling is antiquated,” Billy Corgan said. “Yet, when I talk to fans, they recognize the style is why the NWA is growing again. I like to think the UFC stole what made wrestling great — the physical ‘you versus me’ nature of it all.”
