Max Caster: Scissoring Gets Kids Suspended From School, But It’s More Inviting Than DX Crotch Chop

The trend of scissoring has vastly erupted in the professional wrestling world thanks to Max Caster and Anthony Bowens.

Together as The Acclaimed, the duo has widely influenced the current generation of fans with their signature hand gesture. Though meant to be a sign of friendship, the power of the scissor has sometimes been misconstrued, and landed some kids in trouble. Young wrestling fans have sometimes gotten suspended from school scissoring, which Max Caster thinks is “great.”

In a recent appearance on The AJ Awesome Show, Caster revealed that one of security guards at an AEW show told him of an instance where his child scissored in school.

We had one of the security guards at one of the arenas we were at, pulled me and Anthony [Bowens] aside. He goes, ‘Hey, I just want you guys to know that my cousin just got suspended from school because he was doing the scissoring’. We go, ‘That’s exactly what we wanted.’ Kids are gonna get in trouble, but if they’re gonna get in trouble, we want it to be from scissoring,” Caster said.

The impact of scissoring has drawn comparisons to another popular gimmick from the Attitude Era: the D-Generation X crotch chop. In the late 1990s and 2000s, the DX stable inspired millions of people to exclaim ‘suck it!’ while executing the crude gesture. “A lot of people think scissoring is taking over what ‘suck it’ was back in the ’90s and 2000s,” Caster said.

“I really love the scissoring because it brings people together. It’s more inviting. ‘Suck it’ is kind of an insult to people, but scissor is more ‘come here. put ‘er there.’ It’s a sign of friendship. It brings people together. Even today, this kid was at my table and another fan gives him a poster of me to sign, like ‘here you go man, Merry Christmas.’ Then they scissored, but it’s that scissor that brought them together in that moment. They could’ve said thanks. They could’ve shook hands, whatever, [but] they scissored. That’s making a difference in the world through wrestling, through scissoring. Imagine that. Isn’t that crazy?”
