Samoa Joe will defend the TNT Championship on the January 4 episode of AEW Dynamite.
In a tweet on December 29, AEW president Tony Khan announced that Darby Allin will challenge for the gold. Joe defeated Wardlow to retain the title on the December 28 episode of Dynamite, and Allin attacked him after the match.

Allin unsuccessfully challenged for the gold on the December 7 episode of AEW Dynamite. He is a former TNT Champion, and he has not held the gold since he lost it to Miro on the May 12 episode of AEW Dynamite in 2021.
Joe won the title by defeating Wardlow and Powerhouse Hobbs at AEW Full Gear. He is also the reigning ROH World Television Champion.
