Kerry Morton Confirms His NWA Deal Is For 18 Months, Discusses Interest From WWE And AEW

Kerry Morton offers some details regarding his contract status and discusses interest from WWE and AEW.

Morton, the reigning NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion, recently announced that he signed with the National Wrestling Alliance.

During an appearance on the Matthew Mania podcast, Morton discussed his decision to sign with the NWA and confirmed that his deal is for the next 18 months. He stated that his contract will be up when he graduates college.

“I just re-upped deal with the National Wrestling Alliance for the next 18 months,” Morton said. “I am on board with the National Wrestling Alliance. It’s great how everything worked out. Pat Kenney and Billy Corgan, they were very open. They were like, ‘Hey, we want you to attend university. We want you to get your education, we want you to be a cheerleader, and still be a part of our organization.’

“Billy gave me some high praise at the last tapings just a few days ago. He’s like, ‘Hey, you’re the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion, and you’re a conference champion and a national champion in cheerleading. That’s something that I’m very aware of, and I’m very proud of you. So keep on doing what you need to do.’ So it happened to work out greatly. My contract will come towards an end when I graduate college. So give 18 months starting January 1, and we’ll go from there.”

Morton was also asked whether he’s had interest from WWE or AEW. He stated that he has, and he noted that he let them know that he is currently focused on completing his collegiate education. He also noted that he attended a WWE tryout.

“Yeah, I can happily say that. So yes, they have,” Morton said. “That opportunity is so surreal, and with the WWE and AEW, I let them know that, ‘Hey, I am in college. I plan on graduating from college.’ That’s kind of the idea of what they had for me so far.

“When I reached out, and they reached out to me and they asked me to come try out and be part of their squad in Florida, I said, ‘I’m in university, I would still love to attend’, which I did. Right now, I’m just kind of focusing on getting my education, which is a deal I made with my parents and grandparents before they passed. Get an education before I pursued the professional wrestling business.”‘

Kerry, the son of WWE Hall of Famer, Ricky Morton, won the title at NWA Hard Times 3 by defeating Homicide.
