Ricky Starks: My Pose Isn’t The Dab, It’s Completely Different From That Foolishness

Ricky Starks wants you to know that his pose and the dab are nothing alike.

Ahead of AEW Dynamite: Winter is Coming, Ricky Starks sat down with Steven Muehlhausen of DAZN Wrestling to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about the origins of his pose, Starks said he started doing it when he was little after eating some good food.

“I used to do the pose when I was little,” Ricky Starks revealed. “So like, when I would eat food or something like that, if I liked the food, I would do a little dance or a little shimmy. And then, I would do like a random pose. And so I remember doing it on an indie show one time because I walked out on stage, my music stopped playing, and I didn’t know what to do. And I was like, just pose! Because people are taking pictures of me, what if they just had me doing this pose, so that’s really where I came from. When I was younger, I used to do it a lot.”

Starks also wanted to make it perfectly clear that his pose is not the dab, insisting that it’s a completely different thing.

“And I think it’s funny when people think that it’s actually the dab, but it’s completely different from that foolishness,” Ricky Starks said. “This is more of me. This is more of like — the way I define the pose is like, if you do something good, or you’re feeling great, or you’re just in a joyous mood. You just want to hit a pose on somebody, capture the moment type thing.”

When asked if he was bashing the dab, Starks confirmed that he was because he believes enough time has passed that he can get away with it. Starks believes it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing his pose in other sports leagues across the country.

“Yes, but I’m able to do that because I think there’s been enough years that have passed to do that,” Ricky Starks said. “I’m glad we’re past that point. Now we got the pose, don’t be surprised if you start seeing people, like someone from NFL or basketball games, all these sports leagues, they started doing the pose, it’s popular.”
