William Regal‘s time with All Elite Wrestling has reportedly come to an end.
Regal signed with the company in March 2023 after WWE released him in January. He debuted at AEW Revolution and was subsequently featured on AEW TV as the manager of the Blackpool Combat Club (Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson, Wheeler Yuta, and Claudio Castgnoli). At AEW Full Gear, he turned on Moxley and helped MJF win the AEW World Championship.
MJF betrayed Regal on the November 30 episode of AEW Dynamite and attacked him. Regal was then carried out of the ring on a stretcher and driven away in an ambulance, fueling speculation that he was being written off TV.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that Regal is “effectively done” with AEW and likely returning to WWE. Sapp wrote that Regal’s contract was reportedly set to expire in December, and an AEW source stated that Regal was “done” with the company after the MJF angle. Sapp also noted that AEW sources are assuming he’s leaving, while WWE sources are assuming he’s coming back. Triple H was reportedly “very unhappy” Regal was released by the previous regime.
Regal was a vital member of Triple H’s team throughout his time in NXT, but the developmental underwent drastic changes when Triple H had to step away due to health issues in 2021. Triple H was later named the head of creative following Vince McMahon’s retirement, and he later took the title of WWE’s Chief Content Officer. Since then, he has been bringing back several members of his former team, including Road Dogg, who returned as the senior vice president of live events. Sapp cited sources who expect Regal to have an “advanced role” upon his return.
Additionally, Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports that Regal is finalizing a new deal with WWE, and he is expected to return in a backstage role after the new year.
A previous report noted that “all signs” point to Regal returning to WWE.
