Nick Aldis Clarifies His Comments About NWA Being ‘The Most Toxic Brand In Pro Wrestling’

Nick Aldis clarifies what he meant when he called the National Wrestling Alliance a toxic brand.

Aldis has been the face of the NWA for the past few years, but on November 6, the two-time Worlds Heavyweight Champion announced that he had given his notice to the promotion. He was subsequently suspended and removed from the NWA Hard Times 3 pay-per-view. After the event, which ended with Tyrus winning the world title, Aldis posted on Instagram and called NWA “the most toxic brand in pro wrestling.”

In an interview with Nick Hausman of Wrestling Inc., Aldis elaborated on his remarks and emphasized that he’s not talking about politics. However, he believes Corgan has been doing the complete opposite of what the fans want.

“I’m not trying to get into the political stuff,” Aldis said. “That’s not interesting to me. Politics in this country is very, very split. Very divided. I’m a centrist. However, I feel like as a brand, you should do your best to be apolitical as well. … And that’s not really the meat of the matter. It’s more about the audience [having] been telling them one thing for a long time, and Billy specifically has been disregarding them and doing the complete opposite, almost out of spite.”

“The National Treasure” went on to express his disagreement with the way NWA President Billy Corgan operates NWA and made it clear that he thinks the company president is intentionally going against what the fans want; he called it a spiteful approach.

“At some point, it feels like he’s sort of deliberately going against one the fans are asking for, and it just feels like a very spiteful approach,” Aldis said. “I just don’t think that it’s got anything to do with business. I think it’s just to do with ego.”

Aldis recently opened up about his decision to leave NWA. Meanwhile, Corgan shared his side of the story. More information is available here.
