Gunther: Elevating The Intercontinental Title Is Important To Me, I Want To Contribute To Its Legacy

Gunther aims to elevate the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

The WWE SmackDown star won the title by dethroning Ricochet in June. Since then, he has defended the gold against stars like Sheamus and Shinsuke Nakamura. In doing so, he has restored some of the prestige of the title, as fans have regularly praised the way he has carried it throughout his run. In his most recent defense, he retained the gold against Rey Mysterio in a renowned match on the November 4 episode of SmackDown.

Speaking with Steve Fall on Ten Count, “The Ring General” was asked about elevating the Intercontinental Championship and whether he wants to me it “the” title. He responded by stating that it’s the most important championship tp him, as it’s the one that’s currently around his waist. He made it clear that, with each defense, he aims to put on excellent matches and contribute to the title’s legacy.

“I think that’s really what it is. I think that’s something that’s important to me,” Gunther said. “For me, it is the important title there is right because I am the champion. I don’t have a focus on any other title. I couldn’t care less about anything else. That’s what my focus is on right now. Obviously with every defense, I try to contribute to its legacy. I want to put on the best matches possible for the fans but also for the prestige of the title. That’s something I take pride in, and it’s something I always did and will continue going forward.”
