Butchsays Sheamus‘ hunger is the most impressive thing about him.
Sheamus has been paired with Ridge Holland and Butch since the latter arrived on SmackDown in March. Together, The Brawling Brutes have become a fan-favorite group, as their hard-fought matches have won over the WWE Universe. This chapter of his career has revitalized Sheamus, as he has said in previous interviews, long after his WWE debut in 2009.
Speaking on WWE Out of Character, Butch shared his thoughts on working with Sheamus and highlighted his hunger as a competitor, despite his lengthy tenure with WWE. He stated that “The Celtic Warrior” is on the best run of his career, and he emphasized the fans’ connection with him. Butch also noted that Sheamus wants to keep pushing forward, despite the success he’s enjoying now.
“The great thing about Sheamus is how hungry he still is,” Butch said. “Obviously he’s been with WWE as long as I’ve been wrestling, it’s up there, 14-15 years, whatever it is. But he’s as hungry as day one, and he actually says quite a few times, it’s probably better to come from him than me, but he said multiple times that this is his favorite and best run of his career because this connection that he’s got with the crowd now is so organic and real. A lot of it, from my perspective, is it’s built on the effort that he’s putting in in his matches. I think that’s almost more rewarding than any other run he would have had up to this point.
“He’s had some great moments and some great matches. The tag team with Cesaro was great, people loved that, but when you’re out there now on those live events and we’re going to these random towns all over the place, there’s like a visceral reaction when he comes out, and you can see how proud he is if that. But he’s not satisfied with it. He wants to keep pushing forward, and not just to elevate us, but to have the best run of his career, even though he’s been there that long. That’s the most impressive thing about Sheamus, I think.”
Butch and Holland will challenge The Usos for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship at WWE Crown Jewel on November 5.
