Wade Barrett: I’ve Never Ruled Out Getting Back In The Ring One Day

If you think you’ve seen the last of Wade Barrett inside the squared circle for sure, we’re afraid we’ve got some bad news!

SmackDown commentator Wade Barrett was recently a guest on Out of Character with Ryan Satin to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about the possibility of returning to the ring one day, Barrett said it’s not something he’s ever ruled out.

“I’ve never ruled out getting back in the ring one day. I won’t say it’s high on my list of priorities. I don’t think I could physically do the full-time grind anymore. I think more mentally than physically. I think my body could hold up; I’m still in very good shape. I keep myself fit. But I think that grind of doing that job full-time for who knows how long would be very difficult for me at this point because I just got other avenues now and other things I enjoy doing.

“Most obviously, the commentary side of things which I wouldn’t want to give up. But yeah, I’ll say walking down to that ring here and yelling boom to me, and it does start to make you think, oh, maybe I’ve gotten a little left in the tank, but that was my first night back. And, of course, you’ll remember the main event of that show, which was GUNTHER against Sheamus, and I’m seeing these two for three segments of the show beat the hell out of each other.

“I’m seeing it up close and personal. I’m seeing the bruises. Suddenly I’m like, you know what, two hours ago, I felt like I wanted to get back, baby. Now I’m watching these two like hell no! Because I know if I come back, they ain’t putting me with the light guys. They’re putting me in with Sheamus and GUNTHER and Drew, and I’m getting my ass whooped every week. So this commentary desk is a lot safer; I might stay here for a bit. I don’t have to fake tan. I don’t have to do any of that stuff.”

When the idea was pitched to him of Imperium taking on himself, Drew McIntyre, and Sheamus, Barrett joked he knows that story would end with Sheamus hitting him with a Brogue Kick.

“Which will inevitably end up with Sheamus giving me a Brogue Kick. I already know how this whole arc of storyline will finish,” Wade Barrett said. “Every time I had any interaction with Sheamus across my entire career, I always ended up with his big size 14 boot right in my nose. So yeah, I already know where that is going, guys. I’ll let it get to me but in the back of my head. Okay, how long till that Brogue Kick comes?”

Wade Barrett returned to WWE as a commentator for NXT in August 2020. But the former Intercontinental Champion hasn’t been approached by management about stepping back in the ring since then because he was adamant that he didn’t want to take any bumps when he signed.

“Nothing at all. And I was quite adamant when I came back when I signed my original deal that I didn’t want to be taking bumps,” Wade Barrett revealed. “I didn’t want to be doing anything other than the commentary. I think if I pulled somebody aside and said to Triple H or Shawn Michaels or whoever it may be, hey, I would be interested in doing that. I think they would be receptive to hearing me out, but it’s not something I’ve done. It’s not something they’ve approached me with. And I’m quite happy with that for now anyway.”
